Saturday, February 29

NYU Intercollegiate Swing Exchange (NISE) 2020

Join us for a day of lessons, competitions, social dancing, and special performances!
This is a public event centered around student dancers but all are welcome – no partner or experience necessary!
WORKSHOPS
We have 3 streams of classes to suit all levels – beginner, intermediate, advanced – all of which will be lead by fabulous teachers who can’t wait to share what they know with you! All workshops are separated into a morning and afternoon session with a lunch break in between. If you are planning on coming to the workshops, please make sure to indicate which level you are interested in on the sign-up form, and then on the day you must come to the E&L auditorium in Kimmel at 9:00-9:30AM to register. Workshops are open to all members of the public.
The beginner stream is ideal for people who are new to the dance or only done a few months and want to brush up on the basics.
Intermediate is aimed at people who have been dancing for a year or so, and are comfortable with 6-count swing and have tried a swing-out or two.
Advanced is for people who have been dancing for a few years; you should be very comfortable leading/following a wide variety of steps, switching between different footwork patterns, and have done a good bit of solo jazz work too.
Workshops are free for NYU students, $10 for other students, and $20 for non-student members of the public.
COMPETITIONS
This year we will have 3 competitions: Beginner Mix ‘n’ Match (for people with up to 1 year dance experience), Open Mix ‘n’ Match and Solo Jazz. These competitions are all free to enter and will take place at 4-6pm in the Kimmel E&L auditorium. If you would like to compete, please come to E&L at 3-PM to register.
Please note that the Open Mix ‘n’ Match and Solo Jazz are both open to all members of the public to compete in, but the Beginner Mix ‘n’ Match is for students only.
SOCIAL DANCE
This year we are super excited to have the Glenn Crytzer Quartet playing for our social dance! The dance is from 8-10:45PM in the Kimmel E&L auditorium – 60 Washington Square S. It is open to all members of the public for $5, and free for NYU students.

Welcome to THIS WEEK IN SWING NYC

After starting on Blogspot in 2008 and moving to WordPress, This Week in Swing, has a new home! I hope everyone finds this to be an improvement to finding out where to dance, where to take dance lessons or where to go out and just listen (yes we can just go listen) in our love of all things swing! Major shout out to Mandi Gould for helping make this happen. Please check it out, watch a couple of videos and check back often as we continue to do updates.
