This Week in Swing – May 1, 2022

Eileen’s notes:

As people return to swing dancing, do not be surprised if you are asked by a potential dance partner about your vaccination status.  We are a welcoming community, but the tri-state area was hit hard and we want to be safe.   Please be honest.

I am asking all organizers on vaccination requirements, so you can make the decision best for you.  Please reach out to the organizers directly, if concerned and want to make sure what I’ve been told is up to date.

Eileen’s ILHC notes:

PLEASE NOTE: There are limited passes for ILHC 2022.:  Individual Day/Night Passes and Dance Party Passes are available in VERY limited quantities and are NOT guaranteed to be available, including not on site or after online registration closes (May 24th). We are on track to sell out and may not have these passes available at any given time. Details on the dates below.

16th Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party

Our 16th Annual JAZZ AGE LAWN PARTY!
The ‘20s were fabulous frenzy, discovery and rebellion. The passing of Prohibition in 1920 triggered more than the guns of gangsters: It was a golden age of art, thought and social progress. The discovery of the tombs of King Tuthankamen and Queen Nefertiti exploded Art Deco design and women’s fashion, blurring gender lines. Coco Chanel literally wore the pants, and women’s right to vote and the newfound freedom of the affordable automobile helped the now-bobbed flapper have the world for her oyster.
Dorothy Parker and Gertrude Stein joined the world’s most influential writers and minds and the hottest Jazz rang down from the hills of Harlem. All of this and more will be celebrated at the most glamorous and entertaining event of the summer.
Jazz Age Lawn Party is the world’s original and largest Prohibition Era inspired gathering. Originating in 2005 as a small gathering on NYC’s Governors Island, we have since grown into one of New York City’s most beloved, and longest running, events. This historically sold out event attracts thousands of time travelers each year, who come together to discover the music and zeitgeist of the 1920s.
Consistently selected by the New York Times as one of the year’s most memorable events, Jazz Age Lawn Party offers the unique, interactive opportunity to relive one of the most colorful and formative epochs in American history. This is the original, and official Jazz Age Lawn Party, founded and hosted by Michael Arenella & His Dreamland Orchestra.
Tickets $50-$165
THIS EVENT IS RAIN OR SHINE
NO REFUNDS
Updated COVID-19 safety protocols will be announced closer to event date. This event will be carried out in strict adherence to all NY State COVID protocols.
FB event invite Eileen’s note: Suggest checking with your friends as the number of swing dancers attending will vary significantly year to year.
